Odd Mushromance

4th Chapter

Deciding to play things safe, Toadshrine called in sick to work, and then went to the hospital.  His physician noticed almost instantly about Toagshrine's missing wings and asked about it, which Toadshrine explained.  Luckily for Toadshrine, he managed to collect a 'drop' of his wings to be being examined in the lab.  And while they waited, Toadshrine's physician made him undergo various stress tests, including the psychological ones as explained by Amness T.  Toadshrine was given a medical note to take it easy for a few days free of work, and he made sure to let Princess Lightness know about the doctor's orders.  He sure was happy to have such a temperate boss.  Well, the doctor said that he would call me about my wings, so I guess it's time to play phone tag. Toadshrine thought as he walked home.

As soon as he got home, Toadshrine went to the bathroom and began to clear the drain in the tub.  More of his wings were in the drain, dried out, but there, so he figured that he would collect the stuff.  He was truly sad, and all he could remember was what he had said to Amber.  I guess I should've know that wonderful flight was too good to be true. he thought.  One last flight on my wings before the takeaway, at least she doesn't take any shit.
His thoughts were broken by three raps heard from his door.  He wasn't expecting anyone today, but perhaps the company will do him good?  So he answered th door, and there was his physician.  "I didn't know doctors still made house calls." Toadshrine said.
"We don't, sadly, but I thought I would inform you of your tests in person." the physician tells him.
Toadshrine offer his physician inside and the two sit at the table enjoying tea.  "So, what are the results?" Toadshrine asks, somewhat worried.
"Honestly, the test was done in minutes, but it was so unbelievable, that I run multiple tests." the physician began.  "All four tests ran the same result: apparently, the cellular sturcture in your wings just decayed."
"De-de-decay?" Toadshrine couldn't believe it.
"Yes.  I figured that it was a new gangrene, but I was wrong.  All of the signs showed up as decay."
Toadshrine was starting to panic.  "I'll get new wings, right?"
"I don't know.  You may grow new wings, you may not, but you're the first heavenly Toad to actually have their wings decay.  Not even hell Toads have had their wings decay.  I'm sorry."
Toadshrine didn't respond in words, he just nods.

After they had finished their tea, Toadshrine's physician takes his leave and Toadshrine closes the door behind him, then gives a sigh.  "That doctor's a quack."
Toadshrine looked up to see Batt T right at his windowsil.  "W-w-wait, you heard all of that?" he questions.
"Heard it, and don't believe it.  Four tests and all he got was wing decay?  Yeah right, wings don't decay... wings my rot if not cared for improperly, but not decay."
"Maybe he just said decay when he meant wing rot." Toadshrine said while holding his head down.
"Got any more of your wings and a microscope by any chance?"
"Yes, to both."
"Well then, allow me to take a look."

Normally, Toadshrine wouldn't result to such a desperate measure, but that is what he was, desperate.  Batt T waited for everything to get set up, and once it was, Batt T took a look.  Toadshrine tapped his foot in his angst, though he wanted to pace back and forth.  "Hmf, decay, what a shit." Batt T said.
"The doctor was wrong?" Toadshrine said with a bit of hope.
"Not even close..."
"Phew."
"But you have some explaining to do."
"Uh, I don't follow you." Toadshrine was confused.
"You pissed off someone, some higher power, didn't you?" Batt T questions.
"Well, I may have stuck it to Amber and-"
"That explains it.  You enraged a jewelshroom... the same one that altered your wings."
Toadshrine was shocked to find that Batt T knew about this.  "I don't follow you." he says, as if trying to play it off.
"When we were on our date, I noticed the amber colored vein trails in your pain induced wings.  Well, that stuff is all in your down."
"What?"
Toadshrine looked in the microscope and saw things for himself... and he found it.  Orange colored mirco bacteria eating away at his wings.  "Those look like, parasites." he said.
"No, they are your white count... er, amber count." Batt T said.  "She went into your cell makeup and 'clipped your wings' so to speak.  Now if you would be so kind as to remove your vest..."

Toadshrine was a bit skeptical about what Batt T had just said, but he took his vest off anyway.  Batt T smiled, and then looked at his back.  "Bingo, scar tissue where your wings were." she says and scrapes some off.  The scraping were placed on a slide and looked under the microscope.  "They look like platelets, but orange colored." Toadshrine said.
"The same color as the stuff eating up your wings." Batt T noted.
Toadshrine sat down.  "I guess she really did take my wings from me... now I truly am grounded." he sulks.  "I guess I asked for it good this time."
"Well, with or without wings, you still look cute."
"Batt T, now really isn't a good time.  I'm stressing out right now."
"Do you want a back rub?"
"I want to be left alone."
"But-"
"Just go away!"
Batt T was a bit sad, but she left Toadshrine to himself.
Luckily for Toadshrine, he was being observed.
so here's the fourth installment... and as you have just read, Toadshrine lost his wings. I wonder what mushroom people of Toadshrine's type do without their wings... either way, this only makes things more stressful for our protagonist.

Toadshrine belongs to =Chivi-chivik
maybe she'll grant the people an odd favor and draw the guy without his wings....
